Brian focuses his practice on real property and construction matters, as well as, community association law and real estate development. In his construction practice, he regularly represents restoration companies, subcontractors and general contractors in review of contracts, lien lawsuits, payment bond claims, delay claims, construction defect claims and advises construction clients with respect to contracts, change orders and other legal documents in the construction process. In his real estate practice, he advises developers, boards, property managers and members of community associations on the various legal aspects of community association law, including membership and board meetings, voting and quorum requirements, covenant interpretation, enforcement of various use restrictions, amendments to covenants and entitlements and zoning matters before local governments. Brian is the author of the North Carolina Bar Association’s 2019 publication, Common Interest Communities in North Carolina, 2nd Ed. – a legal treatise on planned communities, condominiums, time shares, dockominiums and other forms of common interest communities. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Campbell Law School in Raleigh and a Fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the College of Community Association Lawyers. He has been counsel of record in a number of appellate cases in North Carolina and is a frequent speaker at national and statewide events on the topic of community association law.
