Our Approach

For nearly fifty (50) years, the firm has represented condominium and homeowners associations. We currently serve as counsel to more than 2,000 community associations, advising boards, managers, and developers on the legal and operational issues that affect residential communities of all sizes.  Additionally, the firm advises developers in formation and setup of such associations in the residential and mixed-use development process.

Our attorneys have played a significant role in the development of community association law in North Carolina, including scholarly works, teaching and representing associations and industry groups in cases before the state’s highest courts on matters with a broad impact on the operation of condominium and homeowners associations.

We provide comprehensive counsel to associations on governance, operations, and enforcement, including the collection of assessments, foreclosure of assessment liens, architectural enforcement, developer transition disputes, and the drafting and amendment of covenants, bylaws, and governing documents. Our lawyers also advise boards of directors and management companies on compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

We represent both self-managed associations and property management companies across the state and regularly speak and present on issues involving association governance, nonprofit management, and enforcement of use restrictions. Our team brings a balanced approach, guiding communities through transactions while also representing associations in litigation and dispute resolution when necessary.
